Hallelujah

I snuck off to a quiet corner of the backyard at my parents’ house to find a few moments of peace and enjoy a little Thanksgiving flow to a Leonard Cohen classic. It didn’t go quite as planned. My boy needed a hug (and wanted to buy an in-app purchase). Yes to the hug. No to the app. So much for my hiding spot and a few minutes of calm. I may have been looking for quiet and serenity but life has a way of interrupting our intentions. We have a choice at that point. Tell ourselves a story about why it’s so unfair, curse the creator of the in-app purchase and stomp back inside. Or just keep going with the flow.

After a deep sigh and an explanation of why I wouldn’t buy him the bonus gold coins, I cursed the app and then took a deep breath. I cleaned my inner slate and let it go.

I focused on gratitude for that hug and for the boy who gave it and said a silent prayer of 🎼 Hallelujah 🎼.
