A little piece of peace

When we let our minds run the show, it’s hard to find joy in the little things, in the present moment. If we’re constantly inside of our own heads, worrying about what’s to come and rethinking every step we’ve taken, we miss so much in the here and now.
My forever-inspiring teacher Jennifer Smith said something in class recently that has really stayed with me over the past few weeks. She talked about finding “a little piece of peace,” wherever and whenever possible, even in the seemingly mundane tasks of the day-to-day, even in the craziest of times.
What if we made a real effort to be more present in the world around us? Do we really listen when the birds sing to us? Do we really see the beauty of their flights? When it’s raining, can we pause to enjoy the rhythm of the drops against the window pane? Do we really take a moment to feel and take joy in the cozy blanket we’re wrapped up in on the couch, sheltered from the storm? Or are we too wrapped up in our thoughts to even notice the beautiful little moments in the midst of our chaotic lives?
It’s the simplest things that can give us a little “piece of peace,” no matter where we’re at and what we’re facing, if we just pause to breathe, find stillness and enjoy the very minute, the very second, the very moment that we’re in.
Namaste.
